SMALL DETAILS. A CLEARER BUDGET.

Warm chicks. Fresh water.

⚡ ELECTRICITY / USAGE ONLYR3.5698 / kWh incl. VAT

◉ WATER / PROVISIONAL GUIDER0.12351 / litre incl. VAT

A little warmth.

Count hours actually drawing power. Brooding duration, warmth and coverage are agreed with the team; these controls are budgeting examples.

Every little drink.

Drinking changes as the birds grow. Cleaning is counted separately.

5 L/day for cleaning is an editable planning assumption. Heat, bird age, leaks and drinker type change actual use. These numbers never limit access to fresh water.

Electricity estimate—Adjust your setup above
Water estimate—Drinking + cleaning
Combined usage budget—For the chosen period

Budget only · not added to your basket or charged. Your request saves these assumptions for the team. Confirm the supply tariff, metering and any shared fixed charges before accepting your quote. Supply charges, sewerage and delivery are not included above. For other electrical equipment, ask the team to include its consumption too.

How we worked it out +

Electricity = watts ÷ 1,000 × number of heaters × hours × heated days. Eskom’s VAT-inclusive usage components are 279.34 + 0.52 + 77.12 cents/kWh. Fixed supply charges are separate and must not be repeated in full for each pen. No 20% electricity markup is applied.

Water: 1 kL = 1,000 litres. We use the district’s R89.50/kL commercial reference × 1.20 × 1.15 = R123.51/kL, or R0.12351/L, as a provisional VAT-inclusive budget. This assumes the source price excludes VAT; the notice does not label that row. If it already includes VAT, the corresponding guide would be R107.40/kL. Confirm the supply invoice and tariff before charging; do not add VAT twice. Costs are rounded once on total usage, not on every litre.

Drinking references: chicks 0.10 L/bird/day for the first 21 days, then 0.25 L through seven weeks; adult layers approximately 0.22 L at normal temperatures. The estimate advances the chick age across the chosen period. Higher use and cleaning need their own allowance; actual readings take priority.

FROM YOUR PEN TO YOUR PLATE

Keep it. Share it. Sell it.

Your eggs or your chickens, prepared as meat. Choose what sounds right for now—you can decide the details later in My flock.

This saves a preference, not a booking. Processing, packaging, selling fees and delivery are quoted separately. No buyer, income, slaughter date or delivery is guaranteed. You receive prepared chicken meat, not live birds; the team confirms the registered processor and meat readiness first.

A LITTLE CONFIDENCE GOES A LONG WAY

Small steps. Real life.

01 / GET COMFORTABLE

A home before a flock.

Choose a pen and the supplies you need. We check the setup, feed, water and daily care arrangements before birds arrive.

02 / KEEP IT GOING

Build a daily rhythm.

Keep track of your purchased supplies and care. Your team posts actual work and photos to your private journal.

03 / ENJOY THE JOURNEY

Your eggs. Your growing flock.

Request egg collection, prepared chicken meat, suitable delivery or help arranging a sale. Review all fees first; readiness, buyers and output are confirmed from the actual flock.

Can I collect chicken as prepared meat, or have it delivered?

Yes—the request flow is for slaughtered, prepared chicken meat. The team first confirms a registered processor, packing and all charges. Collect at an agreed time or request a suitable chilled/frozen delivery quote. Your journal shows actual preparation and booking records.

Can the team help sell my eggs or prepared chicken?

Request a sale in My flock. You review the actual buyer price, all deductions and expected payout before agreeing. No sale, profit or buyer is guaranteed; payout is recorded after the team verifies payment to you.

I’ve never kept chickens. Can I start?

Yes, you can send a beginner’s request. Tell us what support you need. The team agrees suitable birds, equipment and a daily care plan with you before confirming the order.

Does the pen rent include birds and feed?

No. The pen, birds, feed, equipment, utilities and care are separate costs. Electricity and water usage can be budgeted above; the team confirms tariffs, metering and any fixed charges in the quote arrangements. Purchased goods and care are itemised. Your quote shows quantities, dates, VAT and the total. Only the rental period and care units you select are included.

Will pressing a button feed my chickens?

Choosing products changes your preview and request. Once you accept the quote and payment is verified, the team carries out the purchased work and records it in your journal. Basic animal care must continue regardless of app activity.

How many birds fit in a pen?

The drawings show a typical 3 × 5 m pen. Suitable flock size depends on bird age, type, equipment, ventilation and management. Your requested number is checked before the quote is issued.
